Advertising on TAY: your ideas wanted

...you put a remarkable amount of your time into TAY, I sort of lean towards whatever is easier for you and works best. I think all the previous ideas have merit but I do not know how one would adapt them easily into your business model with minimal effort.
Very true, you have put a lot of time into TAY, and it shows! Delegation could be a key step to not only getting the results you want, but also sharing the responsibility of whatever the decision is that you come to. Even with the help of 2 members (which I'm sure you could get help from many more) it would cut the "stress" or effort down quite a bit. Maybe a brief meeting to see who would be interested...or perhaps when you narrow the options, pm everyone a poll to ask which option sounds best, and if anyone would be willing to donate some time to the cause as well...

A subscription fee would kill TAY - it thrives on making the minimum possible barrier to join the community/post conditions reports.
It makes no sense that the number of donations has dropped, despite what I perceive as an increase in traffic/increase in folks in the backcountry who get their information from TAY. (though I did kind of regard my CD as a sort of donation...) ~300ish people hit every thread when things are good in the winter. Looks like that many or more hit every thread when things are good in the summer.
Donate! TAY's beautiful without ads. That said, do whatever you need to do, Sir Charles!

How about passing the hat at the annual Crystal Mountain picnic (coming up soon?) This is the largest regular gathering of TAY readers, and I bet we could collect a good chunk of money at this event.

That's a good idea, Lowell, you too, Pete. How about passing the hat at the annual Crystal Mountain picnic (coming up soon?) This is the largest regular gathering of TAY readers, and I bet we could collect a good chunk of money at this event.
In fact, it reminds me, I think last year Justin mentioned that the excess "libation" donations were going to TAY. A simple sign/container next to the dispenser saying "donations TAY" might generate much more income this year.

How much revenue is required per year?
If Charles doesn't mind sharing, this would shed some light on which way to go--the dollar figure is important. Getting everyone to cough $1-3k collectively seems like a no brainer by simple asking more diligently and "passing the hat", but if the figure starts creeping up over $10k then I think I see some banner ads in the future (but who knows???)
On a side note, how about on the "Yard Sale" section asking everyone to use the honor system and donate 5-10% of their sale to TAY. Feature it prominently, or when you post to this section there could be a "kind request" in the window where you text your listing.
I recently sold some gear on TAY, so I'll send my 10% today....check sent.
