I am glad you posted that picture for comparison--It is very interesting.
I borrowed that picture from the collection to use on this non-profit site.

What is amazing are the receding glaciers, but interestingly some of the common annual snowfields retain their comparative depths and shapes between the pictures.

Do you think there will be a mandatory rock landing, like last year?  e.g. should I prepare to damage my ski bases if I "get aggressive"   ???

Be prepared for ski base and possible skin damage, probably will be some rocks there again, they were starting to hatch a couple of weeks ago.  The more aggressive can make the beach landing, the less aggressive can probably skim off to the sides for a softer landing.  Also be prepared to get your feet and other parts of the body wet  , just in case someone doesn't have enough speed to make it all the way across.  I think Vincent got a "10" last year for the deep water landing.

Hmm, that view looks pretty harmless, but check out a closeup from the finish line a week later , eh?
