I second that - I was recommended to him by a semi-pro bike racer when it was thought I had a torn meniscus. I've since been told by others he's one of the best.If you're looking for a recommendation on physicians, Dr. Roger Larson at UWMC Sport Medicine is regarded as one of the best. I've known numerous people (including my ex-wife) who have been treated by him. The whole Sports Medicine staff are really in tune with getting people back to the sports/life style they enjoy. Good Luck.

Wow Jason, sorry to hear it. I feel like I can think back to you mentioning your knee before, no wonder it was giving you problems. I'm curious, what was it like when you did it? I ask because I was there when Cyril blew out his knee back in '99 - within hours it was swollen up like a grapefruit and was very obviously disfunctional. He injured it launching a tabletop, overshooting the landing and landing on flat.

I seem to remember his recovery time was about 6 months. His surgeon told him later that his repaired knee was actually stronger than his other knee, so at least maybe there is something positive to look forward to.

Here's Jill's story. In June 1996 while backcountry skiing at Chinook Pass, she ruptured her ACL, tore the MCL, tore cartlidge and fractured the bone on her right knee. She had a procedure similar to SteveH and with a good surgeon,Mark Silver and PT she was back skiing in 6 months. She was 51 at the time. She's now 61 and downhills and backcountry skis about 70 days per year. Her knee is just as flexible and stronger than before.

An interesting aside. For 2 ski seasons, she wore a brace but felt it was more support mentally than physically. I also noticed that when she wore her brace at ski areas and we went in the lodge. She would always meet other knee surgery patients. It seems to me like walking in the park with a puppy - you'll meet all kinds of new people. They all seemed to be proud of their story and scars or accident. This could be an excellent process to enhance your stature with the opposite sex and your standing in the backcountry community.
