I don't want to block photos from any particular person. I just think that TAY may benefit from a guideline that limits the number of photos, so this forum won't morph into TGR or something.

How many people have been on the internet long enough to remember Kill files? Kill files were used in the pre-web (Usenet) days to cause your newsreader to delete posts from certain people. It didn't work. Sure, you blocked that person's posts, but that didn't stop the offensive behavior from infecting the newsgroup. I'm not saying that posting too many photos is offensive. I'm just saying that community standards work better on the internet than filtering by individuals. In my experience, when filtering by individuals is the only recourse, people simply quit the forum. As for not disabling images in the browser, I think all browsers have the option to 'Block images from xxx.com'. It shouldn't take long under a new policy to see who uses photos in a manner you appreciate.

That would be a very "CC.com" thing to do. I hope we never sink to that level. We started slipping in that direction a couple months ago, when somebody posted a "cry baby" photo in response to a poster that they disagreed with. And thus I prove my point. A picture would have been much better.

I'm assuming you meant me by 'Skye'. You could have just posted a picture of an ass.

Your faith in human nature is admirable.

How about CC.com then? Or Telemarktips.com? What distinguishes this forum from those ones? The people are in many cases the same. The topics are also, largely, the same. I honestly don't know why TAY.com is different. That's why I'm cautious about changing it.
I have a hunch that this forum won't be morphing into TGR any time soon.

Charles, for starters. I haven't seen quite the same touch in site design and moderation (two key factors that I think make this site what it is, which is what attracts the repeat offenders here) on any of the other sites mentioned. In the end, I trust whatever call he makes here will be a wise one, even if I would have made a different call.
What distinguishes this forum from those ones?

Lowell, Here's why I think TAY is different (in order of significance):
- The past pattern of behavior on this site is of civil discourse. Civility is the convention.

- Charles is a fair moderator. Mitch and Ryan are highly capricious in their moderation styles -- they do not adhere to strict guidelines. I can personally attest to Mitch's capricious moderation leaving a sour taste in my mouth. He's moderated in ways that do not follow the rules he sets in his guidelines.

- A lot of us know each other or are likely to encounter each other in the backcountry. I'm unlikely to encounter 95% of the posters on TTips.

- Most of use our real names or variants of our names. I think this makes the discussion more respectful. I believe you've even said this before.

- This board isn't inherently about a gear bias. Just TTips domain name sets up for polarizing discussion.

How about CC.com then?
