the mysterious Global Warming trend that George Bush caused.
Where in this thread has this been suggested? And George Bush does actually believe in Global Warming. From Lowell's article:
At the G8 summit of world leaders this summer, President Bush acknowledged man is warming the planet.

He just doesn't want to do anything about it.
The above link to the article is a good read.

Has it really come to this?

Rather than quote scientific journals or papers from reputable scientific organizations, we are to read the opinions of a right-wing British journalist--one that earned the title of "Most Islamophobic Journalist of the Year" by a British human rights organization, coincidentally--whose work is most often read in the Daily Mail , decribed by the apolitical Wikipedia as "midway between the tabloid and broadsheet divide, covering much of the same celebrity ground as the tabloids but positioning itself as a more upmarket 'middle class' publication."

This conversation has simply slipped over the edge.

I thought the Melanie Philips article was an enjoyable read, a breath of fresh air. Ooops! my political slip is showing.

She said that this is a political argument and that is certainly true.

Hey! We hate big corporations that have too much power over us. We hate big government that has too much power over us. There is a sneaking suspicion that humans are from another planet and not even Earth creatures. There has been a tendency towards self flagelation since monks cloistered themselves away from the sins of the city.

And when I am up on the mountain away from all things human... well that does feel pretty good! I think that is why we like skiing. And when I do meet people on the mountain... well they are all pretty nice folks!

I don't like big corporations and big governments either, but I don't think about them much when I am skiing.
There is overwhelming concensus in the scientific community that gobal warming is happening. Research indicates that the planet has warmed many times in the past. What some people have missed, is what the research involving ice cores, arctic sediment layers, tree ring records, and Co2 levels are consistently concluding. That this amount of warming and the short amount of time in which it has occurred, is unprecedented. It seems it has become warmer than ever before, faster than ever before. What effects will this have on the planet? That is as debatable as all the other issues. Man made? Natural? Co2 levels contributing? India and China industrializing? The US role as the biggest Co2 contributor? What can be done about it? Debating these issues will go on and on and on.........

My comments about GW and W were not from here, but other reports I hear on the news... Kinda being sarcastic...

It's extremely sad how politicized this and other things like it have become.
Comments like Randonee's are common and very instructive for those trying to effect policy change around global warming/pollution.
Even though Bush, McCain and MANY other Republicans get it on global warming, it does them no good politically to do anything about it. The face of the issue (on TV, quoted in newspapers) 80% of the time is liberals every bit as bitter and partisan ("This administration this. This administration that") as Randonee is as a conservative. No wonder conservatives get their backs up! Do you really expect any conservative to throw their arms around the Sierra Club?
Extremism is a vicious circle, and if this issue continues to be debated in that realm, nothing will get done. Conservatives won't get their regulatory flexibility and liberals won't get their environmental improvements.
