I'm an admitted fan of "megawatt" lighting systems; there are times on the Burke Gilman in the wee hours of the morning when I feel there is no such thing as too much light. When I pass other riders/pedestrians, however, I aim my light downward and toward the right hand side of the roadway. Same applies to passing other people with super bright systems - don't stare right at the light, look down toward the right hand side of the trail/road for a couple of seconds as they pass.

As far as cars in intersections go, I like to "wave" my light back and forth over their windshields/side windows (another advantage of helmet-mounted lights) if it doesn't look like they've seen me. It's pretty effective in terms of getting their attention.

Thought I would resurrect this one. First it was the rain, it was a soaker, and now the cold. Who is riding in this weather? I have been, it's actually pretty fun. Some of the looks I get are funny too. Kind of like the looks you get when you pull up in the parking lot, in the summer, with a pair of skis and strap them on your back.

Aaron

I ride everyday to class in Ellensburg! I am obsessed with not driving to class, and have only driven to class twice in the last year. (both times when I needed to be dressed well for a presentation)

it was mighty cold yesterday, I was wearing many layers to stay somewhat warm.

8)

My commute is from West Seattle to Federal Way.... I've been biking it on average about once a month; hoping to eventually work that up to once a week. Last time I went was this past Friday.. hoo BOY was that cold!! still fun though. ;D

20.5 miles one way, in the morning at least ..... then I take the bus for most of the return trip; maybe clock about 2 miles to get to bus and 2 miles from bus to home.

I've spent the last month riding 25+ miles each way to and from a job as a teacher. I've got to be up at 4:30 and riding by 5:00 but it's worth it. A bad cold got in the way of last week's commute but I'm ready to roll again. Most interesting part of the commute has been the HID light that would crap out without warning in poor weather. The manufacturer has it at the moment...

Great topics never die!

Interesting article in the P-I today -- (too long to copy & paste) --
