Ditto the Stubai al crampon my only problem was that I had to make new toe bails to accomodate size 12 tele toes. I only use them as needed for skiing and would take my steel ones for mixed use.Ron's Kong brand seem to fold up nicer and more compact.

I have a pair of aluminum Grivels that work great. I think they are a bit more expensive than the Kongs, but their bail fits a tele toe better. They also come out of the box dull (young people crampon themselves a lot too). I guess the idea being that you're not going to climb anything that steep or hard with aluminum.

I had bad luck with the strap-on CAMP aluminums (490?) but I have had excellent luck (as has a guide I know) with the step in CAMPs (390?).

Michael

Excellent info guys!

It looks like the Camp 390's are lighter than the Stubia's. I think I'll be OK with the Camp's as long as they fit both my AT and Telemark boots (size 10/11). Hopefully I don't have to construct my own toe bails. Has anyone used Camp 390's on a Teleboot? I thought I read somewhere that they work.

mfaoro - what was the issue with the Camp strap-ons? I have used them just for the odd stretch of moderate snow in summertime, and they've worked fine so far (in fact, they seem to hold on wonderfully on lightweight hikers, even high top sneakers, but I'm wondering if there's a time bomb lurking, or if I am just not using them the same way as you (e.g. not on plastic boots or something...).

...which means they actually weigh a bit more than 480 grams. They've worked fine in all sorts of conditions (even careful stepping for short distances over rocks, as well as very short 50-degree icy pitches on the backsides of frozen moguls).
