I had a friend break the center connecting piece (the little flat beam connecting the front portion to the rear portion, used for size adjusting) of his strap on Camp aluminum crampons. The little flat beam on his, an element that requires flex, were a thick brittle material.

I've used my aluminum Stubai's a lot, even to climb the Kautz route on Rainier in August of 2004 (pretty solid ice approaching 45+ degrees).

The Grivel Air Tech Light look pretty nice.

It took me yrs of searching to purchase crampons that would fit over my tele-boots. Mostly step-in versions. The Stubai Al crampons don't work. Of all the toe bails I've tried, the Grivels are always big enough to fit over tele boots. They move from crampon to crampon when necessary.

Recently I replaced the toe-bail of my Camps w/ Scottish straps to fit over my summer boots. I *think* I made them big enough to fit over my tele boots.

This is interesting. I've got three pairs of crampons: steel hinged Camps with Scottish straps, rigid step-in Grivels, and hinged aluminum Stubais. The first two were purchased for plastic climbing boots, but they fit my T-2's perfectly. The last pair was carefully purchased to fit my T-2's...which they do perfectly. I never had to bend or adjust or modify any of them. I must've just lucked out (or been less particular than some).

here are a couple of super light weight options, although I'm not sure if they'll work for your needs (45 deg. hard snow).

Kahtoola KTS:

but since you'll be skiing down and won't need the heel points these look like a better option (although if you have to retreat, you may be SOL)

I just got my Camp 390's a few weeks ago (they are the ones with the heel and toe bail). They are SOOOOO MUCH lighter than my Grivel Rambos (and are easily packable). I'm lookin forward to testing the Camps out this spring and summer. It will be interesting to see how they perform. The superlight Grivels looked pretty sweet (on the website)...but I don't think they come with a heel and toe bail...which is what I wanted.
