Thanks to all for the details! It looks like I have two good alternatives to choose from, and I guess that I will first try the paper bag technique when the need arises, since I already have the necessary tools. It sounds like the warm scraper method may be very efficient, though, at removing the old glue. What about a hair dryer for heat and a simple paint/putty scraper for removal - any reason that wouldn't work?

One last question: is there any reason to do the rolling with release paper on the new glue, or does simply brushing on the new glue work just as well?

Mad Dog is bold!!! I would have never thought that using that much heat directly on my skins would be safe. But if that is the case, then her method of degluing would be far superior to the paper bag/iron method. There are many problems with the paper bag/iron method...it takes a long time as you have to go over the same section of skin numerous times and occasionally the paper bag sticks to the skin. I'll have to try out my heat gun at the end of this season...thanx MD.

Your welcome Matt, just be very careful that you don't get your ski skin so hot that it delimates the skin.

Charles in answer to the hair dryer thing, I think that would work too, as long as you can get the glue pliable enough to get it moving so you can scrape it off with any type of scraper. It just happens that I had the man tool, heat gun/scraper here.
And you know how us women are when our "girlie" things like hair dryers and irons end up in the garage >
Hey maybe that's where my nickname came from

Charles, I have always used the release paper because I had a supply from the folks at Ascension. After ironing with the release paper, the glue surface appears more even but that probably is not critical. The whole process is quite easy and fast after the first time.

I toss my skins in a warm oven then take a plasic scraper to scape most of the glue off. Then I re-apply one or two thin coats of Ascention glue, using a warm iron to spread it evenly.

If I have lots of glue on the skin, but it gets patchy, I just re-iron to spread it around.

If your glue smokes or your skins catch fire, turn the heat on the oven/iron down. ; )

jhamaker - when you say you iron the glue to spread it, are you using the "release paper" or is it possible to iron directly without gumming up the iron?

Also, for the iron, how warm is warm - is it cooler than the level needed to wax skis?
