A quarter of the people who read your note were up there today. Classic day with easily skiable snow from the car to the rim and the usual mix on the way down but generally good quality if you kept to...
We skied Silver Basin off the king yesterday 12/17 and kicked off a slide from the wind crust over the rocks at the top of SETrees. Not deep but ran over 300' into the trees. Not reassuring.
Ed and I harvested some delicious sweet corn in Crystal Lakes dropping in from the Bench. In prime shape. Lots of spontaneous wet slide activity below cornices and point releases.
Silas, other than weight how did you like the performance of the boot?
I actually found this a useful visual frame of reference .
Does make you wonder what they are looking for up there. Maybe just getting away from the heat.
There was coverage all the way to the bridge but we had taken off our skis for the easy stream crossing so it seemed just as simple to walk- it wasn't really and both of us had some shockin...
Great shots, Dream trip for me. Have wanted to ski Shuksan for 30+ years. Gotto make it happen.
Strong work- 3 hours to Muir! I thought about it but thought it might be wind scoured from the easterlies .
I've seen no reports from the volcanoes- any thoughts on the possibility of corn on Muir or St Helens?
Black bear tracks.
Gone over to the Dark Side, eh? You'll have to surrender your handle.
Good for you. Was looking at it longingly. But being by myself and based on my observations at Crystal was hesitant to go up. Sorry I didn't as Crystal was unskiable off piste.
Who is the freeheeler? Lookin good!
Silas, not sure where you went but looking into Crystal lakes zone from Boxcar cornice there were large natural slides on many aspects from East to north that didn't inspire confidence in the sno...
That dramatic hoar layer was also forming above 5k at Crystal on Thurs. could be a hazard if it doesn't warm and consolidate. Lots of wind loading and scouring in Bullion and Cement on Sat.
Nice tracks! Looks like the glacier lived up to its name in the sun.
Great shots. North chutes the place to be this weekend. Crazy quality.
Those look like tele turns?
Great beta on the condition. I agree that the hoarding mentality has gotten dramatically more noticeable recently. Note the paucity of reports on this board- it's really ridiculous in the PNW whe...
Wish I had chosen your path instead of riding the lifts. Great shots.
Mack, you're right behind me.
Nice lines!
The knee will heal- feel like an idiot for not wearing pads- it was so windy on the ridge I didn't feel like unzipping my pants to put them on. Not surprised to read the note about a slide on Pan...
I also was impressed by the relative paucity of coverage for Pre- July. I hiked up sourdough and dropped the chute on Diggett and it was pretty sweet corn till the last third when it got mashy. Can...
Was looking at this yesterday wondering why no one had carved it up. Good on 'ya.
My impression is that people are generally quite gun shy this year. I certainly have a gut reluctance to exposure based on distrust of the snowpack at deep levels. There are less trip reports th...
On Sat the wind kept the higher snowfields quite firm despite the sun. I opted for drops off Mazama ridge and had wonderful skiing. Looked good in Nisqually but was pretty chunky from Pan Point up..
Interesting how the crown goes right around the trees. Scary. Have traversed that slope many times .
That is quite a triumph after a major surgery. Must have been quite satisfying after all the pain, disability and rehab- not to mention cost. Congrats.
