Those layoffs are an important issue. Another important issue, for backcountry trip planning, SAR mission planning, and overall water resources planning, is the gutting of federal science. Weather, SN...
We just did that route yesterday. Amazing. The exit was like a 2 mile half pipe. Able to mostly glide the road all the way back to our car. A bit of poling / skating.

We need to find a way to harvest these trip reports and / or create an app that shows progress up-road as a function of date. How hard can that possibly be? It would just have to be a marker on a map.
so, do you only need one permit for that?
snopark permits are needed until something like 4/1. After that, in addition to your summit permit, you need a Northwest Forest Pass for parking. Clear as mud, eh?
Thanks for that link. Not clear at all otherwise.
Sounds like you did not go into 4 mile lake and approach from the east? Any idea if that road is open to the lake yet?
Cut out 'skiing' and insert 'rock climbing' and this entire discussion (guidebooks, posting beta, etc.) happened 15 years ago.One of the main reasons this forum is useful / interes...

Ah, we wondered what happened to you guys (and your dog?). I was actually thinking Pioneer Gulch Trailhead (not Rockpile) would be the best, and it lies essentially at the base of the SW bowl? Glad yo...

evermore.
Was there coverage all the way back to the parking lot? Wondering whether to bring the good skis or rock skis if we go up this Saturday.
With dedicated snow tires, do you need chains? I know a lot of checkpoints are either / or (chains OR dedicated snow tires).

Request or two for more info:-About 3/4 mile hike before hitting snow.-Attached photo shows our descent. I've done this twice. I know some people drop lower and schwack back via RTM trail.-Point...
One photo, I suppose...Adams was looking prime.
John is somewhat underselling how unbelievable the descent was. the NE bowl was velvety corn all the way down. No hardpack, no crust, no runnels, no suncups. Four mile lake campgroun...
