Had blast at my first Slush Cup (despite a few tense moments). Thanks everyone for all the pictures. Hopefully pond skiing in daisy dukes will not negatively effect my future career as a politician!

This picture is from the unabridged GaryJan collection. Not sure who it is, but definitely one of my favorites:

My turn!

(Apologize for the crappy gallery; computer died and in process of rebuilding it the way I like it, and this was quick and easy. I have all these photos at much higher resolution and in RAW format, these were batch-processed so if you really like one I can probably give it to you in a much cleaner higher-quality version)

Great Photos, All!!

I'm still going through mine, but after some reflection of this social gathering two observations stand out:

1. the skimmer's skill levels are definitely rising at an exponential rate. in earlier years straight runs through open stretches of water were a really big deal. If memory serves it seems like the Hummels and Christy were the first ones to actually do any turning on open water. But this was the first year I saw folks actually doing open water hockey stops at the shoreline!  The bar keeps going up :)

2. The other first I noticed is a lot more spectators. I talked to folks that had never been to the Park before who had decided that a nice hike in the mountains to watch some crazy skiers skim a pond might make for a nice outing. Some old friends of mine that hadn't been to Rainier in 12 years brought their two daughters (13 and 15), both who had never been to Rainier. They took in Paradise and the new VC on their way out. The daughters told the parents that the Park was the most beautiful place they had ever seen and now they plan on hiking there regularly. So it appears that our "social gathering" is helping the Park build their attendance so they can stay in business.
