All-Purpose Wax Recommendation was created by jstluise
Looking for an all-purpose wax recommendation that I can use year around. So far I've been using Racewax's universal wax (PB-1030) that came with my ski tuning gear, but I am running low. Wondering if I should get the same or try something else. Ultimately I'm sure I won't notice the difference, unless maybe one wax is more durable over another.
The other candidates I see are Swix's UR8 or Swix's U. The UR8 is a mid-temp (12F-36F) wax. The U (Universal) doesn't have any temperature specs that I could find. All of them are hydrocarbon waxes and are similarly priced.
I'm sure the answer is "Just pick one and go ski!", but let me know if you have any other thoughts! Thanks!

I use Hertel's Super Hot Sauce. Pretty cheap, gets the job done.

Paraffin wax sold in craft stores for candle making and supermarkets for canning works about as well as most "ski wax"
Ski waxes containing fluoride compounds can be significantly faster under certain conditions, but unless you are racing the extra 5% doesn't matter much.

I use Hertal's FC739 racing wax. Not cheap.
Jeff one of my ski partners ,same height but 50 lbs lighter on slightly shorter skis uses paraffin. Jeff consistently out glides me!

I have been very happy with Toko all temperature performance fluorowax. It takes a little more heat (~135F) to iron it on correctly -- and it best to let it set overnight. Then I use a freshly-sharpened scraper, nylon brush and polish with a 3M green microfiber pad.
The results have been noticeable, as I glide faster than my buddies and can eek out a few more MPH on the screaming groomers.
