Have fun! I'm thinking about picking up a beater alpine setup(heavy) for resort skiing. Sometimes I don't want to think about every little nuance in my turn and just plow through the crud and bumps to get to the pow.
I tour with splitboarders so i'm not worried about gear weight as much.

Kinda -- looking at some used Cho Oyu skis to start. Gear questions can easily get off into the level of space shuttle components.

Sorry about the thread drift, Chamois.
Did you get all your questions answered about the gear that wise men ski on?

Having had a brief flirtation with the dark side, I totally related to Randy's comment on the transition from free heel to at and somersaults. My first outing on at was a gong show in difficult snow on Mount Seymour.
I made this drastic move after knee pains tele'ing when the orthopod said I had arthritis in the left knee and my tele days were over. So unwisely I listened to her and put Dynafits on my Coombacks, but kept one tele set up and did physio for my knee all summer. One day next season after my dark side experiences I tried my tele set up and, lo and behold, my knees didn't hurt for at least three hours. So now I'm back freeheel touring with the lightest NTN boots (Scarpa TX) and Freedoms. I realize I could drop some weight with at, and I do parallel a lot of the time now as I'm an old codger, but I'm happy to make the compromise for the ability to throw in tele turns when I want to

Cho Oyu's are a good choice. Those are my summer skis. Great ski. My current winter skis are the Huascarans.
