Snowmobiles on Mt Adams? was created by Chris S
Can anyone comment on how common it is to see sledheads playing on the south-side access to Mt Adams?

I'm curious about doing a mid-winter ski descent, but I know the road is buried pretty low. I'm curious about teaming up with a snowmobiler to drive to the trailhead and/or wilderness boundary. I've had success with hitching a tow at Lake Tahoe and the north side of Mt Baker using a case of beer and a my own tow-rope - could that work on a nice weekend here, or do I need to find myself a sledhead to adopt beforehand?

Any thoughts? Volunteers? Does anyone know the name of the local snowmobile club that regularly rides around Adams?

Not sure what the chances are of getting a tow up to the boundary, from early season tracks I've seen up there, you might get a lot higher up than a "legal" tow. There is the Ranger Station at Trout Lake but I don't know how much vigilance they pay to the local snowmobile usage?. Think you could find your way to trade bubbles for exhaust fumes and vertical. In winter, Adams can be pretty snotty so be safe if you make a stab at it. Maybe a sno-mo site could give you a place to pose a proposition? Oh, there was a few years ago a tracked snow cat with a cab parked a few miles down towards Bingen. Think they offered some travel options to clients at one time? Google for it, might find something good there.

I would post on the Washington section of the snowest forum if you're looking to coordinate with local riders. If you get towed instead of riding doubles I would pick up a water ski rope that is dynamic. Your shoulders will thank you :)

Drove up the southclimb yesterday (1Jan2014) just to see how far up we could get.  Made it to 4500 no problem, no snow to speak of really. Ice on the road was bad in spots. The road turns into a serious ice rink around 4500 on a steeper uphill section. With chains or studs you would probably be fine.  We need some precip bad.
