Last minute changes require me to skip the event tomorrow.
So I have two tickets to the event tomorrow free for the taking.
If you have been waffling over the $30/head cost this may just be your day.
First one to pick them up in Kent before 5:30 pm today in Kent gets them.
Email me for the location (click on email to the left).

The Core Award is an award honoring a local backcountry enthusiast that best embodies the true spirit of getting out and getting after it, all day, every day, in all conditions.  They may not have the newest gear of drive the fanciest car, but they are the one that you just KNOW are making tracks while you are making breakfast.  We want to recognize this commitment to passion.

Thanks for making me a co-honoree, I apologize to others more deserving.  I certainly no longer get after it "in all conditions" nor do I make "tracks while you are making breakfast."   My gear is new enough and my Tercel Townhouse is quite fancy in my opinion. :)  I am thankful to be healthy and wealthy, if not wise, enough to ski almost whenever I want now, and appreciate the great group of youngsters who senior sit and encourage me on every tour.  Most of all, I thank Charles Eldridge for creating this forum for sharing ideas and up to date conditions.  Hopefully today's discussions inspired us to post more of our experiences, small or large as they may be, in the interest of increasing the knowledge base on which ski touring decisions are made.

Big thanks to Michael Jackson and the other folks who make NSAW happen each year.

I think I've been to every one of these events and this was one of the best.

I especially liked the presentation by Commander Jeff Montgomery, who described how Naval aviators have long applied the principles of teamwork and communication that have only recently been articulated by avalanche educators.

The best slide of the entire workshop came near the end of Jeff's talk and it had just one word on it:

"Humility"

Great talk. Just great.

Seconded on the "best single slide of the show". I'm thinking about taping that to my left ski tip, to complement the ASAP logo I like to have on the right ski tip.

I'm a fan of an idea that most of the speakers advocated; that everyone in a party is expected not just to communicate readily, but to offer an informed opinion regarding risk. I'd not heard that explicitly stated before, but it addresses a weakness I sometimes see.
