I also had trouble with my Sportiva GT skins not being very sticky, with the snow getting stuck on the sides and then peeling up. I also had trouble with the tail attachment point sliding down the rubber strip (thus preventing the skin from staying stretched out). The ladder problem caused the day to be over because there was no real good way to improvise a solution.
The solution: I sent them back to backcountry.com and got a pair of BD skins - a more reliable tip and tail attachment system, better glue, and they are more conducive to improvising solutions to problems that might arise.
