More basic training courses at the introductory but not certification level are provided free by the Pettigrew Foundation. Very high quality 3 hour courses taught at Alpental by Gib, Stimbuck, and others utilizing the Alpental beacon basin, in honor and memory of David Pettigrew. There are also courses at Steven's pass. Highly recommended. The courses tend to fill up early.
