Yeah, yeah. But if I go and get employed I can't ski midweek as easily.

I haven't been, but for the Portland area, Ski Bowl and Mtn Shop host a "Tele Tuesday" demo and race and least a couple times a year. Open to AT'ers and Tele alike.

The "Hog Loppet" is a fun time.

It's a little scary - skiing free-healed, without metal edges, the first mile from top of Mission Ridge ;). But once you are in the flats, it's just fun, like the STP, only on skis.

Another great one is the Kootenay Coldsmoke Powderfest at the end of Feb.

For domestic events , click here.

For international events , click here.

There are several local races that don't appear on either of those links however, (VertFest for example).
