Hey Christoph. I agree, the thing that I would be the most bummed about the resort closing is the side/back country access from the resort. There's some goods back there.
The USFS and Mammoth Mt. the current permit holder are still negotiating on what the public access for this winter will be. They both have a certain amount of liability at stake. I'll update as I learn more.
