Oddly enough, according to google maps, Mowich lake is closer to seattle (at 90 minutes) than the Vesper trailhead at 110 minutes.

i wonder if anyone has hiked their skis up the 1 mile trail to the snow/ice remnants at the Big Four Ice caves in order to squeak in end of the summer turns?

...not that i recommend walking around on top of a pile of snow that could have any number of large voids in it from the meltwater caves...but still its struck me as an interesting spot to possibly put the skis on snow if one only had a few hours time to drive somewhere and bag their august or september turns.

If the goal was 10 turns / 100 vft in as few hours as possible from Seattle door-to-door -- I'd head for Alpental -- the snow patch on Upper Nash should still be big enough for 10 turns. :/

Mowich Lake -> Spray Park -> Flett Glacier would be a much prettier outing and better skiing.
