gravity, judgement is how the game is played.  If the "community" can't self-police, the selfish individuals end up representing the community.

Sorry you are so sensitive...

Do you really expect the sled community to prevent this type of deliberate illegal activity by one or two individuals? I suspect the vast majority of sledders (and I'm one) would condemn this behavior. Now, how should we go about preventing it? While you're at it, please let us know how we can prevent drunk driving, as we also own cars.

Exactly why a bigger administrative hammer needs to be used. The community can't police itself...

I'm an advocate of winter forest management.  But I don't know if this case is a good example of the need.  These bozos were in an illegal area, clearly posted no snowmobiles with concrete barricades blocking access to the parking lot.
Lines on a map probably wouldn't have prevented this.

What's an "administrative hammer"?

I would argue that simple enforcement is what is called for in this case.  Seems to me that catching the culprits in the act would be pretty easy.  A "No Snowmobiles" sign at the roadblock would probably be good too.

We had a huge problem at Hyak and Mt Catherine about 10 years ago where snowmobiles were being unloaded in the lower lot and guys would go night riding through the ski area, and many times be drunk as well. Also we had people unloading at SilverFir and coming from that direction over the nordic trails. It took about 3 years, but after pressure from locals, and pointing out some of the parties involved to police (and one nasty accident) it was resolved. Also we got the Forest Service to add a no snowmobiling signs at the entrance to Hyak as well as at the beginning of the FS roads. Once a few start riding, others see it and think it is ok and they will join in.....next thing you know it is a huge problem. That is what happened at our area. Just need to nip it at the start before it becomes a huge problem.

We want to be free!
We want to be free to do what we want to do!
We want to be free to ride.
And we want to be free to ride our machines without being hassled by The Man.
And we want to get loaded.
And we want to have a good time!
And that’s what we’re gonna do.
We’re gonna have a good time.
We’re gonna have a party!
