Voile ski crampons with BD's O1 tele-bindings? was created by runningclouds
Anybody with first hand experience using Voilce Ski Crampons with Black Diamond's O1 binding?
I am somewhat unhappy with the BD ski-crampons for O1. They are hard to put on, especially in marginal conditions or in dicey terrain.
I have googled the Voile fixed ski crampons briefly and there is a lot of positive feedback, but I also found this thread on telemarktalk.com that suggests some modification is needed for the O1s.

I would appreciate any info on using the Voile ski crampon with any tele-binding, especially about the clearance.
I am thinking about mounting the 96mm crampon on Atomic RT86 (128-86-115mm) with the O1s.
Let the collective wisdom flow.

I've used the Voile ski crampons with the O1s, as well as Targas and NTNs, and I really like them. The BD crampons were awkward and the boot has to come off the binding to remove the crampon. Then they barely engaged the snow. The Voile's continuous snow contact is reliable. There is extra resistance because of this, but it's worth it.
I have the older models; don't know what the new ones are like but I think they work the same. The 95mm fits onto the 95mm waist of my Kilowatts, and the wider ones aren't too wide either.
If you buy, order extra pairs of the attachment discs so you can use the crampons on different pairs of skis.

Thanks telemack. Did you experience any contact between the cartridges and the crampon on the O1s?

Just held a pair of voile cramps up to my o1's (I haven't mounted or used the voiles with the o1's), and I think I see the issue. Looks like there is a short stiffening wall on the top of the crampon at the front and the back. I see now in the pic that the mod was to file or cut out the stiffening wall on the outsides where the underfoot cartidges of the o1's fall when the foot is down. As long as you're not really heavy and using them on blue ice or rock, I'd imagine the aluminum would hold up w the mod to the stiffening wall, but depends on how you feel about putting a brand new pair of crampons against the grinder. Also, if you're up on a riser, it may not be an issue.
I also have the o1 pons (thanks Mack!), but am not superstoked on the design. I did use g3 crampons on my ascents when I was using those. They seemed to work well, and pretty slick to install/remove.

Thanks kneelturner. How did you attach the G3 crampons to your O1s? Is that a viable alternative to the BD O1s?

Check out the B & D telemark ski crampons -- they can be used both as pivoting and fixed ski crampons. Their leash is really great as well.
