First: I came from tele to AT (rather than Alpine to AT) so I prefer less restrictive, lighter gear.
My AT boots, in order of weight: TLT5, Zzero 3 Px, Zzero 4 PU, Zzeus (also PU).
I like the flex in the last two (PU) boots; when I push, I like to feel some progressive give. I find the Zzero 3, lighter and shorter, to be fine, but the Px less progressive than the PU boots. The TLT5, without tongues, and snug buckling give me a little of the progressive flex I like (mostly in the liner and powerstrap
). With tongues they seem stiffer in forward flex than my Zzeus BUT I have skied the Zzeus only lift-served on groomed (just got them) and only with my 2011 191 cm Volkl Mantras with alpine bindings; I think I would find the Zzeus too tall and too stiff for me in the bc and they would overpower my 187 Manaslus. I have found the downhill performance of my TLT5s equal to my Zzero 4 PUs (I prefer the feel of the Zzeros downhill with the flex, but the TLT5 without tongues are fine). If the snow is somewhat gnarly, and the slopes steep, I'll but the tongues in; with deep enough and steep enough I don't feel the boots with tongues are too stiff. I have never felt the boot collapse.
The biggest negatives I've heard about the TLT5s is that they are like skiing in pvc pipe (they can seem that stiff with the tongues and mild slopes).
In sum, with my Manaslus I have found no less downhill performance with my TLT5s than with my Zzero 4-buckle boots; on the way up, traversing, and on mild slopes they are far superior to any of my XC, Tele, or AT boots.

Andrew (or anyone else on the TLT5m) do you feel like your mountains are sufficient to not collapse while getting thrown around in uneven or cut up/ tracked/tree bombed then refrozen snow with your longer skis? Ie typical cascade ski outs. Can you compare them to other boots you have used?

Yeah thats what they say. I just adjusted them myself and never had an issue with staying in. I never crashed to test their releaseability though. I probably skied around 12 days with that setup, since I have dynafit bindings on my touring skis.

@kevino, i thought these boots are tech-binding compatible only? How did you use them with fritschis?
