Be Aware Mt. Rainier Might Be Closed!

There is a snowshoer missing at Mt. Rainier according to a Spokane news source that says the Park will be closed tomorrow (Monday) if they don't find him; he's been missing since Saturday; the Park was closed today (parking lot with lots of search and rescue folks--not the "snow impeding access" on the Park twitter).  They "don't want to be distracted" by the public if they don't find him today.  Seems like a good public turnout could be a good thing.

He is a 66 year old man. Sounds like he fell and got separated from his group. Searchers found him alive, stable and conscious. Looks like a happy ending.

Quite amazing--48 hours, temps in the teens, winds in the 50s, found at the "head of Stevens Canyon" after "falling off ... the High Skyline Trail"... good news, congrats to the searchers!

The rescue folks have my highest respect. They donate hours and hours of their time to help out. Oyvind did an all day snow rescue training session at Stevens on Sat. and barely paused at home before heading out to Rainer to help with the search. There are many, many like him.
