Marker Jester Bindings - Locking of heel is odd was created by thatoneguydave
Quick question for anyone who has the new Marker Jesters or any of the similiar models to the Jester.

I just had a pair of DPS skis mounted with Jester bindings at REI the other day. I picked them up thinking REI knows what they're doing so I didn't test actually locking the boot into the binding (in hindsight...stupid not to check). At home though I attempted to lock the boot down by hand, but was unable to. The heel of the boot hits the top of the heel peice (no wiggle room for the boot at all to move forward or backwards). By hand this was impossible to almost lock the boot in.

I put the boot on my foot though and stepped into the binding and got it to lock and it appears fine. What's troubling though to me is that the heel literally almost doesn't fit into the binding when it's not locked.

I'm at work and have no pictures to post (I know, doesn't help), but if anyone has any similiar experience with these bindings any insight would be helpful. Want to make sure I'm not going to blow my knee out on the first fall of the year.

the marker's I have used (dukes/barons) are very tough to get the boot to lock in just using my hands... i think i've always had to put my foot into the boot and stomp down to engage the binding, so my uneducated opinion is that they're probably set up correctly...Marker's just take a lot of oomph to click in.

When adjusted properly, "Royal" series Marker bindings (ie. Jester, Duke, Baron) are closer to the heel than other brands - try stepping in with the boot on your foot, the fore/aft adjustment screw should be flush with the heelpiece baseplate if they are properly set.

In other words, when set up correctly for forward pressure, the Jesters might look like they're adjusted for a smaller boot sole length than yours, but the proof is in whether the adjustment screw is flush with the boot in, not how they "look" before you step into the binding.

Edit to add:

Like this - (picture #22 is hard to see, but screw head is recessed. This is the Duke manual, but the heel looks the same except for the frame)

Thanks guys for the tips and info. From the info you posted Greg I deemed them fine, but I still found it odd how tough it is to get the boot IN the binding so I took them down to who mounted them...REI. The technicians response was that it's the marker series in general and the combination of the boot I have Lange 130 RX. Immediately I asked if this was going to pose a problem for releasing and such and he proved to me that they will release on the DIN settings they were at. I was convinced, but I think I will continue to think about this until they do release while skiing without a problem.

So they are correct, just a bit difficult to get my boot in and out.

Thanks.
