AT boot recommendation for wide feet ?

. As long as the shell fit is OK, don't pay too much attention to how tight the uncooked liner feels . . .

In general that is true, but not necessarily so with the BD Primes. My factory liners were painfully tight on my toes and after cooking my bootfitter tried stretching them with heat and some kind of thing he put inside and was unable to get them large enough.

I have HUGE bunions (and lots of foot width of course).

I do great with Garmonts. They were the only shells in which my feet were not hitting the sides (without the liner). I went to Jim Mates and he even "punched out" the boot on both sides a little more. He also made me a custom inserts. I love it! I only had to go to his workshop twice.

Thanks, everybody. I was hoping to get recommendations for manufacturers with wide toe box.  I will look into using Drew at ProSki and Jeff Mates. What shop does Jeff work out of?  -Mike

Scarpa seems to have wider toe box, as already mentioned.

I am surprised that you didn't try the Spirit 4s in a 29. I have them, and am happy with the width, both pre-and post-cooking. It's another story when I compare the comfort to my snowboard boots...

The Spirits are relatively soft too, especially with the green tongues

Cheers

I too have very wide feet and am past the age of a performance fit. I have had luck with Scarpas. Getting them fitted properly for ageing feet which have possibly been insulted in the past by tight boots and too much cold weather is a big issue. When I have my liners cooked I insist on extra heavy socks, sometimes two pair, plus double the toe booties. The fitters try to talk me out of it, but I know what I need to keep my feet warm at -5 degrees. I don't use battery boot heaters in my AT boots, and I want room for the full length grabber foot warmers. This is what I have learned in my 60 years skiing trying to have warm feet. Larry says that if you insult your feet too much with the cold early in life you have a higher risk of developing Renaud's syndrome later in life. At some point in life it is just enough to be out there still skiing. Dad quit at 91 and still misses it.
