I too am blessed with wide flat foots. I did 2 seasons in Scarpa Tornadoes, good fit and great performance, except every time I put skins on my heels would lift and chafe/blister. Went a size smaller, punched the toes and same problem. The intuition liners also packed out super quick. Went to Garmonts last year, worked well. Had Martin at Crystal do the shake and bake. Bought a second pair this year, one for touring/side country climbs with Dukes ( I know not REAL drop the knee touring) Only issue is toe clearance with the other Markers. I swapped out a pair of Schizos for this years Jesters in hopes I could use the lugged sole, took a little trimming on the front lugs to clear the AFD but still a very tight fit.

I am surprised that you didn't try the Spirit 4s in a 29.

Only size 28 was available because the Spirit 4's were being sold by an individual on TAY.  Seemed like a pretty good deal if they had fit.

I have short and very wide feet. I use Scarpa Lasers for lightweight touring and Dalbello Virus for maximum control and the ski area.

Just to throw in my 2 cents, I have BD Quadrants and they have a nice wide toe box.  Its been a pretty sweet boot right out of the box. They have a flex rating of 120, but really don't seem that stiff to me. With their width comes plenty of power transfer, to drive some wider ski's also.
