The B&D crampons are the ones I have.  They work well.  Mounting hardware is pretty light (it's all plastic & aluminum) and they have a good hinged solution that works with most cable-bindings for tele.  Bonus is that the same crampon works in a Dynafit toepiece.

Thanks Marcus...was wondering though if snow gets clogged under plate as you step forward and then step down and then "clump"..snow under plate of crampon...

Are they easy to take off and install?

No more snow-balling than with any other crampon, no. In the conditions I've used them snow-balling hasn't been a big issue, typically. If you set it up in hinged mode it's under your feet, anyway, so not a lot of snow works its way in there.

Very easy to take off/install. If you've played with a Dynafit crampon, it's exactly the same. If you're using the "fixed" mode, you just slide the plastic tab forward to hold the crampon down.

Trying to compare the fixed voile to the bd hinging mode: since the voile does not hinge, then sure like any crampon there can be snow balling under foot and in the voile case, under the ski. But with the hinging, I'm wondering if you get snow gets jammed in between the top of the ski and under the foot plate (that is above the top of the ski under your foot)?

Marcus: Also, was wondering if one has to use their heal posts so as to have the right height for that crampon post to be dialed in right for forcing the crampon down onto the top of the ski? I have that voile setup with with the short and long post...

Got my voiles yesterday and immediately mounted them. Took them down to Paulina Peak today (36 miles from Bend). First impression skiing flatish ground with skins and 'pons to the base was that I really did not feel much resistance (totally surprised they allow you to slide down little hills as opposed to total traction and walking down hill..).

Got to the base and put the high climbing bar up (11mm?). Wow it was like having Low Footfangs attached to my bases. Steep switchbacking (with ridiculous looking "kickturns up hill..). got seven 8ths of the way up. Do to the fact that a few rocks were starting to zing by, I found it prudent to boot the rest. I liked the way I could put my skis together (crampons sort of help with that) and carry my skis on my shoulder without having to stap them together..

Very impressed with how they are on low angle and totally amazed at how steep they will climb.

They are absolutely a piece of cake to quickly through on the skis. $48 at voile in discontinued section on line.

Glad to hear that you had a "positive post purchase re-enforcement trip."   ;)

Responding to rlsg's question - I've never had balling troubles with hinged crampons, as the snow is typically quite firm when Iv'e used them - at most an inch or two of soft over a crust. I'm sure there are situations where it could/would happen where you actually have good reason to be using the crampons, but I have yet to run into them...

And the nifty B&D setup (which BigSteve can't use) for the optional lock would seem to be a great thing to use in such conditions.
