I don't have much to add, just that me and my GF use the Voile crampons and have been happy. Just make sure to check them from time to time. I have had them come loose.

I had thought fixed might suit me fine as I'd always found that it was easy to drag the crampons through frozen spring snow. Then I encountered some of that rock-hard-snow to which peteyboy refers, and even the Dynafits were annoying unless I modified my stride so as to lift the boot fully before starting to drag the ski. Fixed would require lifting the crampons right out of the snow for each stride in those conditions. That said, this sort of snow/ice is not what I typically encounter on spring/summer tours.

I was on Shasta last year doing the route on the east side that starts from the Brewer Crk. thd. (Wintun) and around13k or a tad lower, it was just steep enough that I was occasionally slipping backward (high climbing posts) when I was easily passed by folks with ski crampons (one was tele but I don't remember the crampon mode...). I eventually ended up booting which really is not my cup of tea if I can avoid it. I think in this situation, fixed would be way better for me than booting. I can skin pretty steep but at some point...

Have not seen a non-fixed for tele yet (using voile three pin hardwire..).

Dunno if these will work with that binding, but it's a hinged cramp for tele bindings (7TM is noted as the only binding they're aware of it not working on). Same outfit Ranyd linked to above in this thread. They offer the ability to flip from hinged to fixed - "the best of both worlds" as described on the site. I still have yet to attach that little doo-hickey to my ski that will allow me to fix my crampons when I choose. These also come in a nice range of widths, which is why I bought a pair of their AT crampons for my Dynafit setup, as Manaslu skis are kind of in the awkward middle between two Dynafit crampon sizes.

Voile's are coming in a couple of days... Just looked at the hinged BD bindings: has anybody used any of these hinged/fixed crampons on tele? Looks like a pretty neat setup but wonder if mounting hardware might be heavier than voile and also maybe more snow clinging to the hardware when crampons are in the pack..

The B&D crampons are the ones I have. They work well. Mounting hardware is pretty light (it's all plastic & aluminum) and they have a good hinged solution that works with most cable-bindings for tele. Bonus is that the same crampon works in a Dynafit toepiece.
