LOST: Camera on Muir snowfield was created by jiri
I lost Canon G12 on Muir snowfield while skiing (falling) down on 5/1. I believe it fell out somewhere above 8000ft. I was skiing wide and mostly away from the usual uphill track so the chances it will be discovered are not good.

Good luck--I lost my G10 on Pan Face last year. I was back at the site w/in 15 minutes or so, and it was gone forever.

That's nothing! I left brand new Life-link carbon poles leaning against the side of my car--then drove away... so sad!

On the other hand.....I once lost a camera in a backcountry bowl just as a March blizzard moved in, then went back looking for it two months later. I found it on my first try, lying right there on the surface. What's more, it still worked.
Another time I was touring near a ski area with someone who had lost his car keys the previous week, just prior to a few snowstorms. We hiked uphill to the general area, he took one desultory poke with his pole....and hit his keys 6 inches down.
OP, be more specific about where you were skiing: left of the uptrack? Right of the uptrack? About how far away? Is it naked, or in a case? What color case? How large?
Your camera will melt out, and chances are someone will find it--hundreds of people ski up there, and once your camera surfaces it'll be fairly obvious. You want to stack the odds the finder will be someone who reads this thead. Letting the visitor center know and posting a sign or two at the trailhead never hurts either.
Hope that helps.

There is a lost and found center at Tahoma Woods, you may check that, as well as the Ranger office at Paradise and the Museum and Ranger office at Longmire--try to find out the current disposition of "found" items. I suspect a lot of people turn things in hoping to be helpful; other might ignore them expecting the owner to return to look; others practices "finders, keepers."
