White Salmon question was created by niko
How long does it take to climb Shuksan and ski back (White Salmon rte), assuming average velocity up and solid skiing down? (I'm asking on behalf of my dogs who may have to stay in the car: they are used to it but there is obviously a humane limit.) Thanks, N

why no leave the dogs with a friend? then you can take your time and not have to worry about them. were you asking about all the way to the summit, or just the WS glacier ski?

All the way to the summit.
As for the dogs, the car is not my first option but not many people would be willing to deal with two rambunctious doodles for an extended period of time; I don't like to kennel them; and we've had problems with dog-sitters but never with the boys in the car... If that's what it takes, dad sacrifices his overnighter: the boys are worth it. N

FWIW, Shuksan is within North Cascades NP, and dogs usually aren't allowed in the backcountry.

a friend and i skied off the summit from the parking lot in 14 hours.  we are perhaps a little quicker than average but were taking it slowish on that day and had a bit of a dirt 'schwack back up to car at the end.

I don't think it's fair to the dogs to leave them locked in a vehicle for so long. Can you find a dog sitter please. Especially on a ski mountaineering trip unfamiliar with the mountain where many things could delay your already lengthy return. regardless of trip knowledge, its still unfair to the dogs for such a long hike. I don't mean any harm here, just the same advice I would give a friend contemplating the same...
