Are we discussing wearing helmet while driving or riding in automobiles? The leading cause of Traumatic Brain Injury is vehicular accidents.
Yes, 50%. Auto accidents are not the only cause of TBI, correct?
Perhaps I should have been more specific. But did not think it necessary considering the context of my remarks and the topic name of the thread under which it was posted. Specifically I was talking about ski helmets and skiing head injuries and how not wearing a helmet when having an accident could potentially impact ones family as well as the victim.

Dude, back when you and I were kids,
law darts were easy to come by,
and Steve McQueen rode motorcycles shirtless (although still sporting a helmet) [fmicon].
Lawn darts (or also called Jarts) were crazy. We used to throw them up in the air then run and hope they didn't hit us....now that was a sport that needed a helmet!

Although I don't think the wisdom of wearing a helmet can be debated, I'm not comfortable regulating helmet wear or anything else related to personal safety. It seems like a slippery slope to go from requiring helmets to prohibiting other risky behavior that I choose to engage in (such as climbing or back country skiing).

Here's an idea to try if you hate getting hit in the head by a footrest bar: YOU be the first one to put it down!
Seriously though, I always make an announcement prior to lowering it.

LONG LIVE FOOTRESTS! My knees suck. Why not use them? Too macho?

Cut them off........Feet hurt more than the knees at this point. No weight on the feet feels better IMO. I get hit in the head once a weekend by the auto deployed bar AKA no "announcement." But really I don't care as long as there is some warning before I get hit on the HELMET.
