Broken BD pure carbon pole was created by lernr
Last Sunday my wife somehow broke one of my pure carbon poles. We were skiing Summit West green runs with the kids! She is an expert skier and we have no idea how it happened. I don't even think she uses them much on the greens. At one point I told her that her basket has fallen out, and that I have spares. She lifted the pole to look and said it's broken ???
This is frustrating, especially with her teasing me that I buy expensive but crap equipment. They weren't cheap, and it is a hassle to deal with. Even worse - if I were in the backcountry...
Am I right to expect warranty from Black Diamond or Marmot Mountain Works? - hoping that they can replace the pole or at least the lower part?
I think that the pole must have had a defect in the weave or something... I got them last April and don't have too many days on them as I mostly ride anyway.

Interesting, the tip of one of my new carbon fiber poles inexplicably broke off recently. I too thought it was odd since I don't recall anything that might have caused it beyond normal use. Mine were bought this last summer as well.

Aha... thanks for the note. I'll stop by Marmot later this week to ask. BD's website says to go to the dealer / distributor for warranty if possible, so that's what I'll do. Will post results here.
Worst case scenario - we can complete one set between the two of us
I just realized that last April I also got BD Pursuit gloves from Wapiti Woolies and the threads came undone on the first trip. Bill took care of me - he had my replacement in a week and I haven't had any trouble after this. But still, I expect more from Black Diamond!
Cheers

I eventually broke the tip on my bd carbon shaft poles. BD sent me a new tip to glue on, but many stores carry those as spare parts.
If it's the carbon shaft i dunno...
oh and after swearing by BD gloves for years, i've sworn them off after my last pair fell apart. hopefully their climbing gear is still well made.... ???

This year I ran into two different people with broken carbon gear on the same day. Not sure if the low digits in temperature had anything to do with it. Both were Goode, one poles and the other this year's new Goode carbon ski. Didn't talk to the guy with the pole but over heard him say he just looked down and the lower third was gone. The guy with the ski said he was side slipping a creek bed and it buckled just behind the binding.... I have no idea what he was doing in an inbounds creek and I didn't ask....
I've still have my 1995 Carbon Leki's with tiny bright orange baskets displayed in my garage. Lower swing weight LOL

knick it with a ski edge, and it's toast. i won't use a carbon lower again. neither BD nor the retailer stood up, this after I asked 'hey, what if you hit the carbon with an edge?' before i bought them..
