FWIW, Black Diamond over the years has among the best reputations for customer service in the outdoors industry.
I rarely have problems with their products, however when I do, they are ready and willing to take care of it and make it right. I have also read countless testimonials in various ski related forums over the years that also supports this.
I'm pretty sure they will take good care of you.

I have a pair of Dynafit carbon fibre poles that have broken twice and both times Dynafit's dealer has replaced the broken bottom shaft. Love those poles .. so light.
First time was because I hit my poles together to knock off snow and it was a very cold day and they shattered. Carbon fibre strong but brittle.
Second time was because I gaped and fell on them.
I've had a pair of BD poles with carbon bottom sections( avy probe poles) for over 6 years and never had problems.
My experience with BD in the past has always been excellent.
Isn't it a publicly traded company now??

As others have said, BD is among the best for warranty issues. To get a new lower pole section, I suggest you skip the retailer and contact BD with your concern: warranty@bdel.com

Update: went to Marmot and it took Eric all of, um, 1 min to give me a replacement lower shaft!
Very happy, but maybe I shouldn't lend my poles to my wife again ???
