So funny, such a small world. We spent many nights at Cabania 19 (classic A frame - with the cabana boy that would start your woodstove in the morning - what a life) at the bottom of that road in Aguas Calientes (we made two trips to ski Antillanca while I was in south america, driving back and forth to Santiago, it was that good).
The tour out to Volcan Casablanca can't be missed, and the "resort" is a must do. you need to go back. (and bring me with you)

One of only two operating ski areas in US National Parks (Hurricane Ridge being the other)
Lots of history there, fantastic nordic skiing and excellent BC access.

WOW, that's a long drive from Santiago plus all the tolls on the Pan American highway. It must be a great place. Here's a photo the evening before the snowfall leading up the stairs towards our A-frame on the right. We froze in the A-frame. We moved the bed next to the woodstove, burned all the wood and slept with our clothes on. Then arrived an hour before the restaurant opened because we forgot to change time zones when travelling from Argentina to Chile. It was a comedy adventure.Zap!

Small town, no lift lines, huge mountain, tons of fall-line skiing, 5K vertical, light powder, cheaper lift tickets.

They were right that it's a long drive, but not a bad place to have a rentable basecamp.
I hear that Kicking Horse (other side of Rogers Pass) used to be pretty awesome for lift-assisted skinning before they expanded. Haven't heard reports since on how it is as a "resort" instead of just a "little ski hill." Oh well, I've never managed to ski either area on either end of our hut trips up that way. One of these years...

Revelstoke, BC.

Skied it for the first time a few weeks ago.
Revestoke= mind blowing vertical, and hike to terrain superb.
Plus storefront avy centre and two storefront heli skiing operation in downtown plus Mustang cat skiing just down the road and Rogers Pass just up the road.
Lift skiing/sidecountry technician/mechanized /touring/ snowmobile hybrid skier's dream.
