All I know is that the last Arctic Blast that paralyzed Seattle was 2 years ago, when my in-laws were in town.
They'll be here on the 22nd.

Any correlation between el Nino/la Nina and probability of 'Arctic Blast' occurence, typically single digit temps, in the PNW? Last years' Dec 6 event inception came 2-3 weeks earlier than normal, if it is to happen at all. Implications to snow pack safety?

Everybody knows you are supposed to be indifferent and dismissive at the moment and pay no attention to " she who must not be named".
Personally I couldn't care less if it snowed.

First, I love that spider pic. This fall there were hundreds of huge spiders all around Capitol Hill, and I was lucky enough to have a female take up a nest in a tomato plant. She grew into fearsome proportions, and I felt so very sorry for her hapless "mates". At least she had the decency to wrap them up in the morning.
Rank Speculation, Rank Speculation, Rank Speculation:
Prolonged artic blast = widespread faceting anywhere the pack is thin, and faceting in the upper snowpack anywhere the snowpack is thick. Radiation recrystallisation on solar aspects at high elevations. An enormous avalanche cycle with the first 30cm dump that followed.
Implications to snow pack safety?
