That's a great story.  As a member of the Willamette Pass Ski Patrol, I've heard Jack's name mentioned a time or two around the patrol shack, and I found this photo on the WPSP history page.  Jack's in the front handles and the photo is from 1950:

Thanks - that's a great story. It's neat to think that someone could do the same trip today and it probably wouldn't be all that different - most of that route is protected as wilderness...

Thanks for the great articles! Jack-- as well as the whole family-- are legendary here in Central ,Oregon-- especially with his generation and the renaissance backcountry/telemark skiers starting from the late '70's...

Years ago a friend of mine paraphrased Jack as saying that if you dreamed of skiing something, then don't just talk about it, but get out there and do it! Think he did inspire some of us to get off our butts and occasionally ski our dreams once in awhile...
