If you're looking for summer lift skiing, don't forget about Timberline in Oregon....

I'd also heard that (unlike Timberline/Hood), the public can't even access the skiing until later in the day, and this seems to confirm a noon skiing start for the public:From there you ski the T-bars only (and typically about 85% of the hill is off limits (reserved for race and freeride camps). It's usually only decent from about 10:00 AM to noon or so.

Ok, I can check this one off... been there, done that... ha ha.
Went up to do the Horstman Glacier skiing today. Three chair lifts and a bus ride to get there and back. Actually, the ride was about as epic as the skiing.
Tickets were sold at the base area chair. Skis were loaded in a rack on the back of the chair that was in front of me. Once at the top, it was all snow where I sat down on the lodge deck to put on my ski boots.
Weather was blue and sunny. Cooked in blazing sun for a while. When clouds rolled in later, got cool. I never put on gloves. Snow was soft and loose, not mushy because the moisture was evaporated out. Somewhat corny.
I was so totally involved in finding my way around that I forgot to take any pics. This is a medium size bowl with a steep entry ramp. The only way out is to t-bar up a steeeeep pitch. That looked troublesome but was ok when I actually did it.
Place was crawling with boarders. I have never done t-bar before today and of course I did the big dumb thing- tried sit on it instead of letting it pull me. I crashed and burned first try. I had to learn to relax on the bar and let it do its work.
Tourist can also buy a ride to the top, along with the peak-to-peak gondola ride.
I think the whole thing was a little better suited for boarders and terrain park types. Maybe if I was more t-bar practiced I would get more excited. But I got to do some turns and that was good.

I'm headed up to the Whistler/Blackcomb area this week and am wondering what would be the best day trips for skiing? We'll have a truck and mt. bikes, so bike-to-ski is an option.
Not looking for an epic, just best quality ski touring w/o requiring ropes and harness.
would appreciate any thoughts on:
-biking/skinning @ Whistler
-biking/skinning @ Blackcomb
-one way ticket to access blackcomb backcountry
-other passes/roads in the vicinity that one could reach continuous snow on skiable slopes utilizing a car/mt bike
Thanks,
-Kneel

Whistler side wont allow skis up. Blackcomb side doesn't offer a one ride ticket for skiers. It's $55 for a ski ticket. From there, you can spend all the time you want out in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Just be sure to catch the last bus from 7th or the last Gondola when you decide to come down. Otherwise you will have to walk from the snowline. Roads in the area with the easiest access to snow include Tricouni Meadows FSR, Roe Cr. FSR, Brandywine Meadows FSR, Tenas Cr. FSR and the Hurley over Railroad Pass. These choices are taking current conditions into account. Have fun and give a report! PS- sleds may still be encountered at Brandywine and Brohm (not included in the list).

Another note. Instead of skiing Horstman Glacier bowl, you can ski from the top of Horstman back down to the bottom of Seventh Heaven Chair, and or course ride back up. There is a lot of snow territory on that mountain side. Snow is clean at the top but gets that dirty look half way down. There are some other skiers on that slope and you can stay in site of the chair line.
