Warning about Garmont AT Boots was created by Andrew Gorohoff
I bought a pair of Garmont Radiums this January. I have loved the boots for both up and downhill until this last week. On day two of a week touring in the Selkirks, the walk/ski mode bar fell off while touring uphill. We looked for the missing bar, but it was pretty much an exercise in futility since we had been touring for an hour and there were several inches of new snow. I had to spend the rest of the week skiing with one boot in walk mode. Later on the same day that I lost my walk/ski mode bar, a friend, also with Garmont Radiums, had the exact same thing happen to him. Luckily his walk/ski mode bar was found in the snow and he was able to find a screw to attach it to the boot.

When we checked the boots later, we found a number of the screws on the boots to not be fully tightened down.

The screws that hold on the buckles go loose on my Garmont Adrenalines from time to time.

Periodically various screws work loose on our Garmont Megarides and Dynamites. I check them every few trips and re-tighten as needed.

While it does suck that this happened to you on a trip, this isn't limited to Garmont's.
Early Black Diamonds also had an issue with the walk/ski mode failing. And, screws do come loose.
Best bet is to use Locktite and check them from time to time.

Also, there are a number of ways to Macgyver a boot into a locked ski mode if it is necessary and if you want it bad enough to get creative.

Scarpa Eco's new this year....second run, a buckle fell off. Tighten your buckles! Tighten your binding screws!

...be responsible!
