No Hurricane is about the same in the opposite direction but they are only open certain days.
There are some weekday tourers based in Bremerton and Port Angeles so you shoudn't have problems finding partners.
I like GH but would prefer to live actually at the ski hill which my wife says in reality I nearly do already.
You will enjoy WA.

I immediately thought of Scotsman when I saw your post on Telemarktips, Climbhoser. Having Scotsman for your neighbour could be really advantageous if you want to ski frequently at many diverse locations all year.

Thanks, mon.
Scots, we should grab a beer sometime. I'll be staying with the 'rents on Bainbridge at first while we sort out the logistics, but I'll be in Gig almost every day starting in Feb.

TAY is really a seething vat of corruption and ski highjinks that makes Desperate Housewives look like the Disney Channel.
Don't worry, I'll fill ya in !

I will put a warning of take what i say with a grain of salt as im not always 100% sure but its worth looking into or having others provide feedback.
School Systems-
Gig Harbor has a pretty dang good school system last time i checked. Offers quite a few AP classe sfor when the kids are older. Sports wise they seem to do fairly well but i wouldnt count them as a "powerhouse" so much. i know they kick butt in cross country and track but football/baseball/basketball i havent really followed. Dont believe their high schol is as large as Souths but they are class 4a (if i remember right)
If you move more towards bremerton you hit hit the South Kitsap School District. They are always good for education. offer plenty of AP classes and electives. sports always seem to do pretty well in all areas. Their high school is large though....2k+ students if i remember correctly.
bremerton School District....my ala mater..... i would stay away if you have a choice. Overall compared ot other districts nearby we can be kind of lacking. not much AP selection or real elective selections. Sports are kind sucky...football won..2 games? this year. Dont get me wrong you will get a pretty good education from here but other districts offer a lot more college prep.
Central Kitsap....CK is smaller than SK and i believe gig habor as well. Not sure if they are 3a or 4a to be honest (i want ot say 4a) CK offers a good selection of AP courses and sports do pretty well. high school size is a bit more than bremerton but smaller than SK's.
Theres a bit of "districts in a nutshell" im sure others can chime in about them too.
One thing to consider is Gig harbor is a bit more "ritzy" and expensive real estate wise (last time i checked at least) One option is to move more towards Port Orchard which is maybe 15 minutes towards bremerton. You can find a lot of land in that area and its generally a lot cheaper than being more towards Gig Habor.
As for the bridge....very rarely have i hit any real traffic there. A few nights i have gotten huge back ups at the toll booths that have been from computer errors or something. 90% of the time though it takes maybe 5 minutes max to get through if you pay. If you have a good2go pass you just drive right on by.
