I'm trying to track down some BD Gold Label skin glue.  I thought finding a 4oz can of this stuff (unfortunately, after I stripped the nasty, old, but still intact glue from a pair of my skins) would be a snap.  I've come to find out NO ONE has it.  I've heard everything from "should be here next week" to "we can special order it" to "They aren't making it anymore".  There was rumor of not being able to ship it due to its hazardous chemical compound.
From what I've read, its superior to the iron on sheets.  So I'm wondering, does anyone have a bottle lying around from when they thought about  re-gluing some skins, but never got around to it?  I'd be happy to pay the $15 retail price.
-Does anyone have experience w/the iron-on sheets?  If they work great, I'll just get those.
-Does anyone know what the deal is with the availability of this stuff? If it'll "be here in a week", I can certainly wait that long.  If not, I'll have to figure something else out.  Maybe I'll take the opportunity to go all "Mad Scientist" and start mixing stuff in the garage. Mmmmwwoooooooaaahahahaaaaa!!!

I did a strip and reglue job a few seasons ago using the BD Gold Label on Ascension skins. I wouldn't recommend it. The factory glue application is thick and forms a pretty heavy layer (as I'm sure you discovered from stripping them). The BD glue is pretty thin and you'll need to do several coats to recreate the original treatment. Even applying the stuff outside I needed to use a paint respirator to avoid getting an wanted glue buzz. Didn't work as well in the field either. Left a residue on skis, balled up in spots on the skins, etc. I'd try the iron on sheets if I was to do it again. I think the glue is better suited for touch ups and refreshing the factory glue treatment.

Hope you find it. I've had precisely the opposite experience as Good2Go -- I'll never use the sheets again and have had great luck with the glue.

I see today that the glue is no longer listed on the websit. Just wondering if you got yours?

Wooley,

Thanks for the heads up. As it turned out, I ordered from the outfitter you suggested online, but due to my many other experiences with unaware retailers who thought they could order this from BD, and the rest who said they couldn't get it, I called the outfitters Monday and as it turns out, they had to back order my glue because they didn't have any either.

Rong, I think you were right.

I called OMC and they did have some on the shelf. I talked them into taking a phone order, and I'm expecting it to show up at my doorstep soon.

So, the one place I didn't call directly is BD. I still don't know what's up, but if anyone wants skin glue in a can, call OMC and beg them to ship some out to ya. They had 3 cans left after I ordered mine Monday.

Thanks for all the help.

I chatted via email with a BD employee today: apparently the current shortage is due to a supply hiccup - they'll have more in stock in a week or so. In the longer term, apparently it is becoming difficult and expensive to ship/transport, so they are considering other options for the future. "Gold Label will probably be discontinued at some point but we are exploring other options as a replacement outside of the glue renew transfer sheets." If you've got questions for them about the future of the product, just email - their customer service is always quick, informed, and comprehensive.
