G3 just came out with a slick skin trimmer. It's not clear as to how much base it leaves exposed, but it claims to take out the need for shifting the skins to the left and right to trip them narrower than wall to wall. Would be really easy if it works as posted. G3 skin trimmer

Paint bucket handles are much sturdier, still fully adjustable, and BTW, you can't patent "genius" or "cheap".
