haha,. Here I thought it would be a bunch of boring beta....
I had recently noticed A-E's tagline and wondered if it was a direct poke at telemon... Glad you asked and not me..

Actually, the poke went the opposite direction. My original tag line was just the phase that I would use to rally my telemarking cohorts with at the top of a hill.I had recently added the second half in response to a backslider (how's that for a negative label) who was trying to convince me that "it's only a turn".

So you go to this church to exclude half the other folks there and practice self-worship? Some religion!!

I shall attempt to stay within the well established TAY spirit of civility as I respond to what I assume is a criticism of my tag line.

First off, everyone needs to lighten up. Even I got a laugh out of Lahar Dar's new tag line. But then I always liked his old ones,too..... "Never say something positive when a negative will do" and "trip reports; why should I write one?"

Secondly, I have always been willing to share the great cathedral of the outdoors with individuals of any persuasion, including members of the Church of Curmudgeons. My trip reports attest to the fact that I do not discriminate against boarders and fixed heelers.

Lastly, I like the fact that members of the Church of the Telemark represent only a small percentage of the worshipers on the slopes. True believers have the strength to be different from the masses and do not feel the need to exclude these other folks.

I don't know who's handling the "Roberts Rules of Order" handbook right now, but do we need to apologize to ~Link~ yet for stealing (I forget which Commandment that was) his query? I've kinda expected GaryJan to chime in as they are one of the resident experts on the penninsula, but perhaps they've been offline. ~Link~, why don't you send them a PM, and that should get you hooked up...

Well, GaryJan is/are out searching for skiable snow and avi education, and it appears that no one else is chiming in, so I'll bite.

If you're coming out to Hurricane Ridge I would really encourage you to get in touch with a local that posts on this board (can't really think of anyone other than myself or GaryJan), and I say that for a few reasons:

1. The gate opening is highly unpredictable, although if you're close enough to have a signal you can listen to the radio chatter and get a better idea of when the gate will open. Enjoying a leisurely morning of coffee and pancakes beats waiting at the gate for 2 hours.
2. The conditions vary drastically from one aspect to the next; in my experience, much more than anywhere else. Just a slight change in slope aspect can make the difference between crust, stable powder, and dangerous avy-prone areas.
3. Conditions vary drastically from one area to another. A mediocre day at Hurricane Hill could be a perfect powder day out towards Maggies or Eagle Point, but once you commit to going one directions, its difficult to turn around and go somewhere else.
4. You ski most runs THEN skin out. I've skied down one slope in particular that I had a hard time getting out of.

Don't let this discourage you. If you go alone you'll still have a blast and if you use your head you're not gonna get into anything too hairy, but your chances of finding the goods are always higher if you have a guide :)

Just post or shoot me a pm if you're thinking of coming this way.
