Exactly, If, I'm touring with somebody with a lexan shovel I sometimes ask them to carry my metal one and I'll carry their plastic one. If they object ,.................... well.... mmmh.
Plastic shovels are about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike or a chocolate teapot.!

I don't thnk the sling blade harness actually comes with (even a plastic) shovel when priced at $10.47

I have a Sling Blade and it works fine, BUT the bottom attachment points are specific to the Lexan shovel: an oblong metal piece shoves through the round holes at the front end of the blade. It seemed like they could fall out of a rectangular hole such as my G3 shovel has.
In other words, it may not even fit your shovel; you might need to buy a weaker shovel by LifeLink. I've not broken my LifeLink, but it bends and deflects when shoveling.
It may be worth pursuing this for yoyoing or South Back-type sidecountry;
Scotsman and I both had similar rigs for a while, with webbing or perlon straps attached by knots or toy 'biners, and a probe bag taped to the shaft of the handle. Then the bag gets in the way when shoveling or being put into a pack slot! And what about your snacks, spare goves and schnapps?! Can't hang those on the Sling Blade.
That's why I use Marcus's solution and "borrow" my wife's little BCA Stash pack....

I have the Life-Link sling and used it for a couple rando races that required shovel + probe.
Seemed to work just fine.
