Anyone have any experience with one of these? Thinking about picking one up for yo yo boarding out of bounds. Kinda concerned about landing on a shovel blade though...think i might try one out, they're cheap!!!

At that price, the convenience of the adjustments and sternum strap may be worth it. But rigging a similar setup with some cord & straps works just fine.
I don't think you'll find landing on the shovel blade to be a problem. The handle hitting the base of your skull is a bigger problem.

I lot of people rig up these with just some cord. I tried it for a while for yo-yoing and it was great until I fell. It hurts if you get the shovel blade in the small of your back. You see a lot of of Crystal patrollers wearing them on their backs and it does give one the air of a "ninja" with his trusty samurai sword .

What I don't like about that set-up is that it's a Lexan shovel, but that's a personal decision. It's better than nothing, certainly. I'd be a little concerned that the probe, or the shovel itself, might get pulled off in a slide.
For more comfort, try one of these:

I had a Lexan shovel once, the blade broke trying to hack some debris.

Wow -- that's the first hard data-point I've heard with the Lexan. Thanks for sharing it.
I carry an extra metal shovel in each of my vehicles, which I'll gladly donate to any ski partner carrying a Lexan shovel (for avy digging, at least).
