New NWAC pages was created by Charlie Hagedorn
I was just browsing telemetry and noticed that NWAC has a whole new look. Neat!
www.nwac.us/
Does anyone know whether the old
nwac.us/products/SABSEA and
nwac.us/products/SABNW
ASCII text products will still be available somewhere?
What about the old nwac.us/products/OSO-based telemetry readouts? A bunch of folks' scripts may break (mine may have done so already) with a change in base URL.
I may be a young'n, but I'm a codger when it comes to change
. I'm looking forward to seeing how the map-specific forecasting works out!

Noticed that the other day and was wondering the same thing, the page is cluttered up with a bunch of distracting stuff when you look at telemetry.

Yes...the new NWAC site is live and was announced yesterday at the Northwest Snow and Avalanche Summit. A quick briefing to bring everyone up to speed...
The Friends of NWAC and NWAC itself have been working for the past year and a half on the new site, which was funded and is being hosted by FOAC. The site was developed primarily to achieve a more user-friendly interface. As mentioned above, the new site implements a map of the NWAC area on the home page that links to avalanche forecasts based on 13 different regions. In addition, each forecast is displayed graphically, followed by the text version that many of you are accustomed to. The telemetry data has also been improved with a 10-day look back in addition to the current data. Those of you reading this will be familiar with the 10-day display on TAY. We are indebted to both Charles and Amar Andalkar for their assistance with this aspect of the site.
You will also notice that there is in fact some advertising on the site. While I am sure that this will be received with mixed enthusiasm, the fact is that NWAC's budget is always under the gun, and the revenue generated from supportive companies will be a huge help in ensuring that NWAC is able to continue operating in the future. A lot of discussion went into this decision, and we promise that the ads you see will be relevant to snow sports and hopefully of interest to anyone using the NWAC information.
Finally, the launch on Thursday night was the "silent launch". We are giving ourselves a few weeks to work out the kinks, and we would welcome any feedback from this forum. Please take a close look at the site, and if you see any bugs or content you don't like, send us a comment. We are confident that the new site will be a large improvement and a big step for NWAC...but obviously, it has to work for our users. Please keep the communication (and support) coming.
Thanks.

The new site looks great! It’s like suddenly I’m in Canada or Europe, with professional quality information presented in a usable format!
The concern about access to SABSEA and SABNW ASCII text products is legitimate. For me it’s not love for the old format but because the simple text can be viewed on a variety of smart phones, whereas the more complex UI is only viewable on the full on browser phones. The more info people on the road can get, the better decisions they will make (hopefully) including slackers as they gather the tribe in the morning (cause no one bothered to look on the web the night before).
In a dream world there would be smart phone apps already out there and each region could just port their data to them for easy consumption.

Beyond my preference for ASCII text (feel free to include advertisements in the text, I don't mind). I don't see a link to the entire forecast - getting a sense for gradients across the region has proven very helpful to me. One document that, read carefully, contains everything NWAC has to say about conditions is very helpful (and a daily companion at breakfast).
Thanks!

Seconded. I chose my phone model deliberately because it could show the telemetry pages formatted more or less correctly, depending on the location. The new layout makes this even worse.
I would not mind scrolling past an ad to get the data, but the raw info needs to line up or it is impossible to read easily on mobile equipment. Perhaps a separate portal with a big fat flashing ad on the first screen?
