No new lift for Hyak this year was created by Hyakbc
Hyak will be foot powered access for at least one more year. Plans for installing a new lift this summer were scrapped. Lots of belt tightening going on at the ski area.

Perhaps because folks have been hiking for turns?

I personally know of at least 10 season passes that will not be sold this year because of the loss of Hyak. It also puts the Nordic Center in jeopardy since there is no lift access to the trails. Those who like to hike up don't buy passes there anyway. Next year will be the first season since '94 I didn't buy a season pass at Snoqualmie.
I do see they are getting all the tower placements surveyed for next years installation, so it does appear they are making plans for install next season. They will be spending a lot of time this year just getting the slopes back in shape, drainage and dealing with the big pit on the hill.

Not sure why the celebration for closing Hyak. The freeloaders still had access when the lifts were running so no lifts makes little difference.

No lifts makes a big difference. Freeloaders like to ski powder!

this falls in line with word I heard out on the street El Nino is making a comeback.

El Nino aint good, and I know the ski operators look at those long range NOAA forecasts.
