Snoqualmie has some great skiing this time of year, as long as you're not looking for big mountain adventures.
For real short trips, I've been known to just skin up and ski down the resort. Silver Fir is nice, but the last trip report said there was a lot of pollen there. Alpental can be fun, although it will get crowded on weekends. Heading up to Source Lake also can be a tad crowded. It's a fair flat slog to/from Source Lake, but from there you can skin up several nice runs that should hold snow into July.
There are a number of other good climbs in the area. There's even a pretty good book just on skiing in the area: Amazon Link

On a side note, does anyone have recommendations for other shorter day trips? Is the skiing near Snoqualmie any good at this time of year?

I was up on Hyak a couple days ago and all the north face slopes are still very good. It all turns to mud on the face where the landslide in Jan occurred but stay on the north runs, or Hidden Valley and Catherine look good as well. Silver Fir and most all the other areas up there still have good coverage.

Muir is not very steep, but a big bite if new to the area and to the altitude. You're going 5400-10,000' with some routefinding; 1500' higher than St. Helens is a stiff warmup.
You might want to try shorter tours around Paradise, such as Mazama Ridge, or Castle Saddle in the Tatoosh Range.
A day tour followed by St. Helens is a classic Cascades intro! Post a TR and make us all feel like proud local hosts.
