It is that time again.
Time to haul a keg of beverage to the top of Crystal in a sled. Cook meat on a BBQ and hang out with the TAY extended family, old, new, lurking and vocal. No promise of sunshine, promise of good times.
I will bring sled (orange plastic, not gasoline burning). In years past potluck/sharing has spontaniously erupted and fun was had by all.
I'll haul the keg if someone fronts it.

Several crucial members of the Turns All Year community (I am not including myself in this category) will be at Mt. Hood that weekend: eating excessively, pounding adult beverages and in other respects acting wholly irresponsibly. A better date for the annual Crystal bash might be the following weekend.
Just a humble suggestion.

I want to be as inclusive as possible. I know the weekend before is a mountie's crevasse class, and the end of the Telus ski and snowboard-fest (and historically the longest ski mountaineering race in North America).
Every weekend there will be a conflict. I sadly missed last year's crystalfest due to a work conflict.
While I hope to see everyone there, I realized that some may have conflicts that are unavoidable.
Who's bringing the BBQ?

Crystalfest without RONJ, Mad-dog and JW?? It wouldn't be Crystalfest.
We should reconsider in my humble opinion!

While it is noteworthy and appreciated that some think of their friends and folks that may have been involved in the origins of this event, it is nonetheless likely impossible to meet the needs of everyone. As much as we all hate to admit it, none of us are indispensable
Thus, one needs to just pick a date, offer significant contribution towards organization and implementation, and go for it, which is exactly what Justin has done.
Had those "crucial members" (whoever they may be) wanted the date to be different, they should have beaten Justin to the punch by suggesting their preferred date and following through garnering the needed support to make it into a "big deal" rather than just another (fairly large) ski tour.
So Justin has suggested a date and offered to haul the specific refreshing libations to make it more than "just another ski tour". Should someone else offer to front the cost of same, and another offer to provide audio embellishment, then the unique qualities will likely be provided regardless of who can make it and who can not, just like the other former six annual events. My guess is there are still a lot of very cool backcountry skiers that could make it to such an event on the date proposed.
So, how 'bout it, is anyone else willing to help out to make it work for 5/3?

BAH! I've got a day of SAR academy stuff that will likely prevent my attendance. Next time, hopefully.
